Section 21 no fault evictions reform delayed

The government has indefinitely delayed plans to scrap plans to ban Section 21 eviction notices which allows landlords to boot out tenants without an explanation until courts, currently suffering from a backlog of cases, are better equipped to deal with the prosecutions..

The Renters (Reform) Bill was set to be a major piece of legislation to make the private rental sector fairer, however, the government announced that it will not proceed with abolishing Section 21 until the court process has been digitalised, more bailiffs have been hired and tenants are given better legal advice. It also said that prioritising anti-social behaviours should come first. This includes mandating that tenancy agreements should have clauses that antisocial behaviour can result in an eviction. Number 10 has not out a timescale on how long the promised reforms will take to be implemented. The bill which has attracted much debate from both sides of parliament and landlords is progressing through parliament for its second reading.
